Jun
a masterpiece by Shotaro Ishinomori
A young man, Jun, meets a little girl. Thus begins a dreamlike journey on which Shotaro Ishinomori takes us. Jun, who dreams of becoming a manga artist like his father, must face his father’s fierce opposition. Drawing and his boundless imagination present themselves as an escape from his daily life but also crystallize his anxieties. The pages, almost entirely silent, draw us into different worlds, eras, and realities. We lurch delightfully between dream and reality through a whole range of graphic styles of rare richness. Between dreamlike and surreal, Shotaro Ishinomori’s drawings invite us to dive into his drawings and experience our own journey.
These different chapters, published in the magazine COM between 1967 and 1969, are an invitation to travel and discover an emblematic author, Shotaro Ishinomori, in a style we might not expect.
This is the French edition by IMHO. It has 336 pages, A5 size.
If you’re worrying about getting the book, it has has little text until page 100. After that almost no text, just chapter titles. It is really worth for Ishinomori’s drawing and subjective storytelling. You can watch a quick clip of the book here.
